South
Africa’s Danie Gerber and Breyton Paulse arrived in Lagos on Wednesday
as guests of the Nigerian Rugby Football Federation. Since they touched
down aboard a South African Airways flight in the early hours, they have
been busy talking with the Nigerian rugby community around the dinner
tables but more importantly helping the players on the pitch.
They started with the young players at
the Kings College pitch in Lagos on Wednesday and have continued with
sessions with the Nigerian national team.
Paulse explained their mission when he
spoke with the Nigerian media on arrival and through their sessions with
the teams. He said, “We are aware of the level of the game in Nigeria
and so what we have come to do is to help make it possible for more
Nigerians to understand, love and play the game excellently.
“Rugby gave us so much and that’s what we
are trying to give back to the society. We know football is the biggest
in Nigeria but we are leaving some wonderful marks of rugby in Nigeria.
We are indeed very thrilled.”
